Joe Taylor to serve three-year term on US hardware co-op board; first elected in 2018
(October 1, 2020) VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Joe Taylor, President and CEO of Taylor’s Do it Center and Pleasants Hardware, was elected Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Do it Best Corp.
Joe Taylor was elected at the 2020 Do it Best Shareholders' Meeting held September 10 in Fort Wayne, Ind. He is currently serving a three-year term on the 12-person board, which includes member-owners from across the country.
Taylor’s Do it Center and Pleasants Hardware are member-owners of the Fort Wayne, Ind.-based co-op, the only U.S.-based hardware lumber and building materials buying cooperative in the home improvement industry. Do it Best Corp. has annual sales nearing $4 billion, supporting thousands of independently owned locations throughout the United States and more than 50 other countries.

The Taylor family’s experience in the independent home improvement industry is extensive. Originally founded in 1927 as Fuel, Feed and Building Supplies, the Taylor family now operates 11 locations in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Poquoson, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach, Va. as well as Moyock, N.C. In 2016, the Taylor family acquired Pleasants Hardware, a seven-location operation in Richmond, and founded more than a century ago. This year, the family opened an eighth location in Mechanicsville, Va.
Joe Taylor has earned recognition and several industry accolades throughout his career. He is actively involved in a number of civic leadership and community support roles. He currently serves on the Virginia Beach Towne Bank Advisory Board. He is the past Chairman of the Board of Directors for Retail Alliance of Hampton Roads (2019) and has been a member since 2012. He is the past Chairman of the Board of the Virginia Beach Chamber of Commerce (2016) and has been a member since 2014. He is a past member of the Regional Chamber of Commerce Board (2017), past board member of the First Tee of Hampton Roads (2011-16), past member of the Advisory Board for Fulton Bank (2012-18), and past chairman, vice chairman, and board member for the Virginia Beach Resort Advisory Commission where he served as Transportation Committee Chair (1997-2006).
